Samsung and MediaTek shine amid chip market decline in 2009, says iSuppli (Digi Times)

Although the global semiconductor industry has had little to cheer about in 2009 with revenues dropping by 12.4% and only two of the top-20 suppliers achieving growth for the year, there is one source of solace for the battered chip makers, iSuppli recently said as it predicted a narrower drop compared to its previous estimate of a 16.5% shrink.

Quartz component makers expect 10% revenue growth in 4Q09 (Digi Times)

Taiwan-based quartz component makers expect their fourth-quarter 2009 revenues to remain at peak season levels, with a sequential increase of about 10%, mainly driven by orders from the handset and networking segments. Overall order visibility has extended to the end of December, according to the makers.

NPC likely to receive FC substrate backend orders from Intel after NGK stops its supply (Digi Times)

IC substrate supplier Nan Ya Printed Circuit Board (NPC) may see weaker order volumes in the short term because its Japan-based strategic partner NGK Spark Plugs has announced that it will stop supplying flip-chip (FC) substrates to Intel at the end of March 2010, according to market watchers. However, NPC is expected to grab backend orders from Intel in the future, the sources added.
