Miniature Duplexer Key RF Component For CDMA Handsets

Temex launches miniature duplexer for CDMA450 systems

Temex of France, a specialist in the field of high-performance time and frequency components and sub-systems, has launched an integrated duplexer for CDMA450 systems in a 5mm x 5mm package – TMX DU W307. The duplexer, a key RF component for CDMA handsets, offers a miniature integrated solution.

[ClickPress, Mon Apr 03 2006] This new duplexer – TMX DU W307– replaces two individual SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) filters and three passive components, with clear advantages such as a high level of integration, which simplifies the CDMA450 handset design, and significant cost savings, as only one device is required instead of five. The duplexer also saves board space as the PCB surface is four times smaller. It is totally lead free in compliance with RoHs regulation 2002/95.

“Thanks to this CDMA450 duplexer, we offer our customers a smaller and highly integrated solution for a fast time-to-market. The board space is four times smaller, saving 75mm2, and the number of components is reduced from five to one. This new duplexer will help handset manufacturers reduce their total BOM cost and the size of their products,” explains Exael Alexander, Business Development Manager.

This CDMA450 duplexer is designed to allow handsets to meet the 3GPP2 international standard, particularly the Single Tone Desensitisation Test. This new duplexer has already been approved by the major CDMA chipmakers thanks to its isolation level, which is superior to rival products by more than 10dB, and its power handling, which is superior to one watt for a lifetime of over five years. Temex was the first SAW manufacturer to match the level of performance required by the 3GPP2 specifications. To date, no other products meet the 3GPP2 specifications and Temex is the only manufacturer to have achieved this breakthrough technical performance.

Temex is already the leading supplier of CDMA450 SAW filters. The development of new SAW chips and the use of integrated passive devices is a new development in miniaturisation, which is particularly challenging at low radio frequency. This complete duplexer comes in a hermetically sealed package that is just slightly larger than a single SAW filter.

A Plug & Play Model and samples of this new duplexer are available for system validation.
